KHS CLASS OF '76 · 25th REUNION NEWSLETTER · ISSUE #2 · MARCH 2001
Wow! What a great response to the news of the reunion! It's great knowing that this gathering means as much to the Class of '76 as it does to the Planning Committee! The plans are moving along well. The big picture is in place, the details are coming together, and cool activities, per your suggestions, are being added. Don't forget - this is YOUR reunion, so keep those fun ideas coming!!!
EVENTS, DATES, SITES:
Friday evening, July 27: Icebreaker. Site to be determined. Saturday midday, July 28: BBQ Picnic & Softball Games. Candy Cane Park, Conroe. Saturday evening, July 28: Dinner/Dance Social. Hotel Sofitel, Houston.
SOFTBALL GAMES. Planning for softball activities at the park during the picnic on Saturday, starting times to be announced. May be multiple games. Kids, adults welcome!!! We're trying to arrange to have all equipment on hand, but if you're planning to play and can bring your own bat, ball, or glove, GREAT! Details to follow.
HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS. I suggest it's a good idea for anyone (even if you live in the area) planning on drinking and who will be without a designated driver to book a room at the Hotel Sofitel Houston; they are holding a block of rooms for us at $69.00. They are only holding a limited number, so the sooner you call the better chance you have of getting a lovely room at a very reasonable price. Be sure to let them know you're attending the "Klein HS Reunion of 1976" function and that your room should be $69.00. Their phone number is (281) 445-9000 or (800) SOFITEL.
PARTY POOPERS. If you are unable to attend any of the festivities, first of all, you'd better have an ironclad excuse! If your excuse does pass our muster, we're asking that you send one or more current photos of yourself, yourself + family, yourself + pets, etc. to display at the reunion. Please send them to Terri Hoppas Johnson, 4018 Travis Country Circle, Austin, TX, 78735; phone # 512-891-0008.
TERI TRIBBLE. Many of you may not be aware that one of our classmates, Teri Tribble Morris, is now a resident at The Woodlands Healthcare Center. Debbie Leabo Pirkle reports that about four years ago, Teri suffered a massive brain seizure. Debbie writes, "Mentally, she is alert and aware and able to talk, but physically she is unable to do little more than lift her left hand and lift her head. I have been going to visit her every week and, apart from her mother and sister, am the only visitor she gets. I think it would be great for as many people as knew her (or even those who didn't) to make it part of their reunion weekend to visit her. She will spend the rest of her life in nursing home care, and I think it would be a tremendous boost to her emotionally to get some visits."
Obviously, Teri will not be able to join in the activities we have planned, so we are thinking of ways to include her in the reunion. We can perhaps take her a photo album of the reunion and current pictures of classmates, and have a bouquet of flowers delivered to her that weekend; however, as Debbie suggests, the most special gift she could receive is our time. Please think about swinging in to visit with her, either that weekend or any other time. Diane Graff Gillum and Darrell Keener are coordinating the visits to Teri on Reunion Weekend. Contact Diane at dianeg@cox-internet.com for details. You can learn more about Teri from Debbie Leabo Pirkle at dpirkle@juno.com.
SURVEYS. These have been so helpful in planning for approximate headcounts, space needed, etc. We've gotten tons of them back, but there are still a few stragglers out there. If you haven't turned yours in yet, please take 45 seconds to do so now! And for those of you who have lost the questions, here they are again (sorry, no excuses):
1. Are you thinking of attending? 2. If so, which events? 3. Plan to come alone or with date? 4. Might you need a hotel room? 5. Might you need a babysitter? 6. What kind of music do you prefer? 7. Would you want to order a commemorative t-shirt? 8. Are you or your company interested in donating or sponsoring a door prize? 9. Suggestions for other activities?
STILL MISSING. Please comb the list of missing classmates below and put them in touch with the committee via the following email address: klein76reunion@hotmail.com
